Advanced Telescope Making Techniques, Mackintosh
. Featuring Selected Articles from the Maksutov Circulars , Edited by Allan
Mackintosh. Over a period of 21 years Allan Mackintosh edited and distributed
the Maksutov Circular s to Maksutov Club members. The club was originally
organized to make a mass purchase of custom molded Maksutov corrector blanks
but it soon became apparent that a newsletter was needed to share information
on optics and practical glass working to close tolerances. Ultimately,
nearly 200 editions of the Circulars were distributed to members. From
this mass of material two 300+ page books have emerged which describe a
wide range of subjects of interest to the person who has made a telescope
and wants to learn more about this fascinating hobby.

A Manual for Amateur Telescope
Makers. Karine and Jean-Marc Lecleire, Attention to detail and dozens
of comprehensive diagrams are the highlights of the Lecleires’ guide to
telescope making. The book begins with a useful overview on grinding and
testing mirrors. From there it painstakingly details the step-by-step methods
needed to create the optics and mounts for three reflectors: 130-millimeter
f/9.2 and 250-mm f/4.3 Newtonians, and a 300-mm f/12 Cassegrain-Coudé
telescope.

In addition, this atlas has some of the world’s finest color astrophotos, inverted and labelled photos pointing to hidden details and neighboring objects, as well as historical sketches alongside new deep sky drawings. Quite simply, this is the most far-reaching and beautiful reference on the Messier objects there has ever been, and one that no observer should be without!
