Astrophotography can be either easy or very complex
and challenging, however it can also be very rewarding and the effort will
seem much less when showing off those great shots you took last weekend.
The best way to get into astrophotography is by
doing piggyback photography. Piggy Back Adapters are made to suit most
telescopes (see image).

Putting a piggyback adapter onto a telescope that is equatorially mounted will give detailed widefield shots of constellations or large clusters and nebulae.
Prime Focus astrophotography needs more practice. This is where the camera is fitted to the focuser of the telescope, thus the telescope beecomes a giant telephoto lens. However some form of guiding device will be needed.
Below are some accessories;
T
- ADAPTERS (to suit all SCT's)
A
T- Adapter allows you to attach your 35mm SLR camera to the prime focus
of your telescope or spotting scope. This arrangement is used for terrestrial
photography and short exposure lunar and planetary photography. It can
also be used for long exposure deep sky photography when using a separate
guide scope. Both a T-Adapter and a T-Ring are required to mount a camera
to your instrument. T-Adapters are available for a range of telescopes.

Meade Basic Camera Adapter
For photography through a Newtonian Equatorial,
the Basic Camera Adapter is required. An eyepiece, typically of 15mm
to 32mm focal length, can be inserted into the adapter and projects an
enlarged image onto the camera film plane.

Orion Universal Camera Adapters
For Photography with Refractors and Reflectors
These adapters allow attachment of a 35mm SLR
camera body to reflector and refractor telescopes for which T-adapters
are not available. The adapter slides into the eyepiece holder as an eyepiece
normally would.
All models are composed of two detachable parts:
a T-adapter for prime-focus photography, and an extension tube for eyepiece-projection
photography. A setscrew in the extension tube holds the eyepiece in place.
Each adapter is precision made of black-anodized
aluminum. The 1.25" models are threaded for eyepiece filters. A T-ring,
sold separately, is required to couple your 35mm camera body to the universal
adapter.

(see image) permits a continuous range of projection magnifications. Each
camera adapter requires a T-Mount for the specific brand of 35mm camera
employed. mirror of similarly high quality.

SteadyPix™ Universal Digital & Film Camera Mount
This nifty device holds virtually any digital or
film camera up to the eyepiece of any telescope to capture images of the
Moon, planets, bright deep-sky objects, or terrestrial subjects. An improvement
over existing designs, SteadyPix locks the camera lens in position at just
the right distance and orientation relative to the eyepiece to achieve
precise focus and centering of the image for afocal photography.
SteadyPix features all-metal construction for
maximum rigidity. It attaches directly to any standard 1.25" telescope
eyepiece with one of two felt-lined eyepiece clamps provided (for standard
or large-size 1.25" eyepieces). The camera threads on to a 1/4"-20 pedestal
via the threaded hole in the camera body. There are no additional parts
to buy as with some other models. SteadyPix’s three adjustment points let
you position any brand of digital or 35mm camera close to the eyepiece
for picture taking. Looking at the camera’s viewscreen or through its viewfinder,
you then focus the image and snap the shot!
Eyepieces with long eye relief are recommended
to minimize vignetting of images. Our Lanthanum series eyepieces are ideal
(standard series, not Superwides). Fits 1.25" eyepieces only.
Why not give through-the-telescope photography
a try? The results may surprise you. One-year limited warranty.
