April : Get ready for the media coverage of the borderline meaningless “Super Pink Moon” on April 26th and simply enjoy another full moon, if you are lucky enough to see it. Early risers will be treated to Jupiter and Saturn over east before sunrise whose brightness is rivalled by the brightest star Sirius which is mostly overhead early on and sets in the west after midnight.

Photographers of deep space are now mostly engaged with the great Carina nebula, and everything around it including “Running Chicken” Lamba Centauri nebula, “Statue of Liberty” nebula and various clusters and Gum targets nearby. Some dark nebulae may interest those up for a challenge including the “Dark Doodad” near globular cluster NGC 4372, the dark clouds near Rho Ophiuchi or even the larger “Coalsack” nebula near the Southern Cross, which is the head of the “Dark Emu” indigenous asterism.
