July  : As if 2020 wasn’t enough of a dumpster fire already, it’s also a pretty uneventful year for astronomy generally with none of the solar or lunar eclipses, or even occultations to spice things up. We’ve had a few glints of hope with comets that never quite reached naked eye visibility but mostly each month has been a few conjunctions but little else.

Hopefully July will be the combo-breaker we need and comet Neowise which is currently near the sun at sunset but already ~1-2 mag. Both Saturn and Jupiter are at opposition this month which will bring a smile to the planetary imaging customers who’ve been stacking video of these giants. The Milky Way core is full of incredible nebulae and we are seeing an avalanche of photos of M16 – The Eagle Nebula – famously captured by Hubble in it’s “Pillars of Creation” photo. A worthwhile target this month! Stay safe and clear skies! – The Bintel Team
