he Northland Astronomical Society traces its origin to 1963 when a group of enthusiasts formed a club to share their interest and knowledge.

In the early days the emphasis was on people building their own telescopes and making detailed observations that aided academic researchers in their work. Today the society is focused on community service through it’s education and public programs.

Members of the society enjoy the following benefits:

Space Club

Each month on the second Friday we meet to discuss and dig into one aspect of Earth and Space science.

Octantis

The society produces a monthly magazine filled with local content to keep members informed and interested.

Events

Society members are entitled free access to all our events, including the Planetarium public tours.

Members can also contribute to the efforts of the society in tangible ways. We are an Incorporated Society and Registered Charity, and deliver a professional service to the community through the efforts of our more active society members. Opportunities to contribute are always open, specifically
