Celestron CGX 800 Equatorial Schmidt Cassegrain
Years of engineering experience designing German Equatorial mounts has been applied to Celestron’s all-new CGX series. The Celestron CGX 800 is the first and smallest of the CGX range of equatorially mounted telescopes.
By refocusing their design efforts and anticipating the needs of today’s visual observers and astroimagers, Celestron has taken the “mid price” German Equatorial mount to a whole new level. The CGX is compact, solid and innovative. Totally redesigned with a lower profile the CGX is sturdier and more rigid than its predecessors. Several new features and new control software make this mount ideally suited for automated and remote operation.
The CGX German Equatorial Mount combined with Celestron’s 8″ SCT tube assembly is an ideal pairing that sets a bold new standard for rock solid equatorial tracking, observing and imaging.
Description
The Celestron CGX 800 features premium StarBright XLT coated optics and the CGX computerized equatorial mount. It is the most lightweight and portable of the three size models. This telescope is especially at home as a solid platform for long exposure photography with your choice of CCD cameras or photographic equipment. At 8 inches of aperture with Celestron’s premium StarBright XLT coatings, the CGX 800 delivers more than 800 times the light gathering power of the unaided eye.
CGX Mount
Celestron’s workhorse CGEM mount lineup has been the German Equatorial backbone for telescopes ranging from 6 to 11 inches of aperture. Since that time, many more astro-imagers and planetarium controlled setups have emerged as backyard telescope technology has evolved. Celestron’s engineering team applied their years of experience designing German Equatorial mounts to the all-new CGX EQ, a culmination of all the advancements made to their technologies. It represents tremndous value while maintaining the ease-of-use common to the entire Celestron range.
The new CGX was designed to better support your telescope for both visual and astro-imaging pursuits. Key design goals included a lower profile EQ head, which provides a more compact and therefore more stable setup; a better drive system; remote operation-friendly with home and limit optical sensors; easier polar alignment adjustments; and better cable management. In addition mechanical and ergonomic improvements have been made throughout to make the mount sturdier, easier to use, and transport. The CGX is Celestron’s new Equatorial backbone to support a wide range of telescopes.
