WHY CHOOSE THE NIKON MONARCH SERIES?
Even with an uncontested heritage of all-conditions optical performance, the all-new Monarch 5 outperforms previous models with improved ergonomics and excellent low light performance. The Nikon Monarch 5 10×42 is nearly 30g lighter than the model it replaces without compromising its rugged frame so it’s more athletic than ever. The addition of Nikon ED glass lenses puts it in a class of its own for battling darkness with sharp, high-contrast views.
Summarising the key features of the Monarch 5 series gives an insight as to why it will continue to hold its position as one of the most successful and favoured binoculars available on the market, both to serious birdwatchers and general nature enthusiasts.
- All-new exterior design
- Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass for chromatic aberration correction and clearer viewing
- Dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coating ensures superior transmittance uniformity across the visible range
- This results in brighter images and more natural colours
- Phase-correction-coated roof prisms for high resolution
- Long eye relief design provides a clear field of view, even for eyeglass wearers
- Close focusing distance: 2.5m
- Eco-glass optics that are free of lead and arsenic are used for all lenses and prisms
- Waterproof (up to 1m for 10 minutes) and fog-free with nitrogen gas
- Turn-and-slide rubber eyecups with multi-click facilitate easy positioning of eyes at the correct focus point
- Rubber armouring for shock resistance and a firm, comfortable grip
- Lightweight body uses fibreglass-reinforced polycarbonate resin
- Soft-to-the-touch neck strap
- Flip-down objective lens cap
MONARCH 5 VS MONARCH 7
There are a couple of differences between the Monarch 5 and Monarch 7 series besides the emblem stamped on the body (and the price).
- For starters, the Monarch 5 series don’t provide quite as wide a field as the Monarch 7. In the 10×42 model the Monarch 7 provides 6.7° field while the Monarch 5 provides a 5.5° field of view.
- The Monarch 7 series include a scratch-resistant coating applied to the outside surfaces of the of the objective and eye-piece lenses.
- The Monarch 7 has a bit more rubber armoring for better protection but this also makes it a little heavier than the Monarch 5.
- Weight of the Monarch 5 10×42 is 646g (with stay on objective covers) versus 696g for the Monarch 7.
If you want wider fields with scratch resistant coatings and don’t mind the extra weight, the Monarch 7 is well worth the extra money.
However, side by side, the Monarch 5 still delivers superb views and leaves a few dollars in your pocket too. Both models of the Nikon Monarch design come highly recommended from the staff at Bintel.
