Whale Watching Season Begins!

It’s hard to believe some people use telescopes and binoculars for something other than off-planet targets, but it’s true. A good many of our customers are wildlife and nature enthusiasts and Milky Way season is also Whale watching season. Whales begin their migration along the east coast of Australia and watching them surge out of the water often in family groups is a wonderful experience. You can even do it when it’s cloudy!

We have a range of options for the best views of this event, but we particularly recommend Swarovski spotting scopes and binoculars.

How to Choose the Best Telescope & Camera Combination

We have a lot of different telescopes and cameras and they aren’t all suited to each other. Depending on what you want to shoot and how certain telescope and camera combinations are better or worse. For planets you need a magnifier like a Barlow, but for big galaxies or nebula you need a wide field…

Gemini Observatory Releases Stunning IR Jupiter Image

It’s easy to forget when we’re imaging in the backyard that the things we’re doing – polar aligning, focussing etc are exactly the same things professional observatories and even space telescopes are doing – just on a larger scale. This was made clear this week when Gemini observatory and Hubble collaborated on this stunning Infared…

Comet C/2019 Y4 Atlas Disintegrates

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS STORY BELOW Comet Atlas’ promising light curve has taken a dip and the nucleus has appeared to elongate indicating the possible disintegration of the comet on its approach.
